In the 21st century effective group work is very important to being successful. Out of the assets needed to be an effective member to a group I feel I am initiative and adaptability. I tend to take on the role of initiating work and making a plan with my group members. I took initiative in a recent poster project by drawing a rough sketch of what I thought our final should look like. I also am good at adapting to issues that come up and how we can solve the issue promptly. A piece on our recent project was not working, and I got the tools to fix it without procrastination. My weaknesses in groups are risk taking and effective communication. I have always been good at communicating and talking about what I need with friends, but in groups I don’t always speak so my group members understand my intentions. I don’t communicate when a group member is not being helpful, I instead take their jobs and do it myself. In a recent project, one of my group members was usually on her phone instead of asking to help. Instead of talking to her, I did more work to compensate for her not working. I also tend not to take risks in projects and stay with the accomplishable easier tasks. This is something I think I have been taught because I feel like in order to get a good grade you must play safe. I have been trying to take risks and communicate my feelings to groups for a long time, but sometimes I still struggle with this. I tend to stick to basic ideas or ways I have done projects before that I know I can accomplish well. In this group for the sociology exhibition, I hope that I can take a risk in our performance and help push the group members around us.

What do you wish to see happen with this project?
I would like to see the community grow in their learning on the Cycle of Socialization. Even if this is only a small part of this community the more people understand what the cycle is and how they are a part of it the more we grow in Durango alone. I want to see us as a class work well together and become a part of a well understood community. What would you like to hear a parent say about the exhibition? How about a Sociology professor? I would like the parent to see that we as freshman now understand how we have been raised and how it affects us. I want them to understand the cycle and to hear them say that they understand themselves. If Bobbi Harro himself were to see it I would want him to feel we put his words and his work in the Cycle to good use and that we understood the topics well. How do we make sure that we are presenting accurate information to our audience? We have a system of peer critique within our groups. Our own people check up on our work and double check that our information we have cited is correct and accurate. We need to make sure the audience is receiving correct information so that if they choose to pass the information on to others the information they are passing is accurate and well looked into. |
